Overview
Many teachers, graduate students, parents, and professionals have learned of our successful outcomes and requested our assistance in bringing Morningside's Model of Generative Instruction to their schools and agencies. Morningside Teachers' Academy assists with the implementation of new programs through formal, external partnerships with public and private schools and agencies.
Our collaboration with each school is extensive, usually lasting from three to five years. Every project is individually designed to fit the specific needs of the school or agency. We offer the following services:
- Assessment of students' skills and deficits, and most optimal program of study.
- Recommendations for curriculum and planning
- Interactive workshops
- How to assess students and place them in instructional programs
- The components of effective instruction
- How to collect and analyze student performance data, and make decisions about staying the course or change instruction
- How to design effective practice sessions
- How to promote application of learning to projects and daily life
- Direct, in-classroom coaching & support of teachers & students
- In-Classroom coaching via web cam and teleconferencing technologies
- System for instructional leadership
The Power of Coaching
It is critical for school districts to evaluate the effectiveness of their staff development programs. While teachers may enjoy and learn from workshops and seminars, these questions still remain:
- What long-term changes do teachers actually make and maintain?
- Are the changes meaningful to their students?
Research reports that without follow-up and in-classroom coaching, teachers implement less than 5% of what they learn in courses and workshops. To counter this problem, Morningside provides interactive classroom coaching with each teacher following training sessions. Coaches are encouraging and supportive. They offer written and verbal feedback as they guide the teachers' applications in their classrooms.
